Throw up and Rock

I threw up in the men's bathroom. Twice. I lost my meal(s) before I took the stage at Malone's on Saturday night. It wasn't because I was nervous, it was because I was sick.

Playing at Malone's was something I was looking forward to because it was going to be a special night. December 8th was my band mate, and life long friend Robert's birthday. The plan was to play our set in front of our friends and fans and then get toasted! Needless to say I didn't take the fact that I would be sick as a variable. I started getting sick on Friday night and ended up in bed by 8 pm. I forced myself to sleep as much as I could on Saturday and fought myself to get to the stage. I would play. We would rock. I told myself....I. Will.

Typically I would have until 9 or 10 pm to get ready to take the stage, but not that night. I could have used the extra 2 or 3 hours to prepare for our set, but we were booked at the ridiculous time of 7 pm. Yes, 7 pm. Who the hell is going out to see a band at 7 pm on a Saturday night?......right? Now I know that NO FORMULA is not a huge thing, and that we are still widely unknown, but come on....7 pm. Communication was bad with the club, and the situation was wrong. As a result we played at 7:15. The sound was good, and the crowd was into it. I guess all I could ask for is a better time slot in the future.

Being sick I did not have much of a voice, but I muscled through it. At one point when I was singing Korova Milk Bar, I got light headed and lost my balance a little bit. I quickly recovered and continued to rock. It is what we do. Anyway, if you missed it we played a new song called Public Witness Program. This is tribute to one of our favorite bands called FUGAZI. We nailed it. You have to see us play it. We are amazing.

Wow.

So,...we finished the set, said our good-byes, and hit the road. Rob was able to hang with friends, and I went back to bed. That is it in a nut shell.

OK, then. LATE!

BTW....special thanks to Sara, Kat, Dan, David, Jim, Arty, Rebecca, Phil, John, Pete, Jill, Hanna, Becky, the other Becky, Mona, Will, Jessica, Johnny, and Russell. Thanks for coming out!

Another Doll Hut Show 11-8-2012

We were happy when we got the call to play the Doll Hut again.
We thought that that first time we played there would be the last time due to the fact that it is closing at the end of this year. We were actually hoping not to play for the whole month of November, as we have been playing regularly, and we thought we could use the break to work on somethings we learned that we could improve upon for the show. Robert got the call and when he called me to ask if I wanted to do it, I hesitated. I instantly felt bad for hesitating because I really had fun at the last show, but I was a little tired. I was also really looking forward to using any time we could before our next show at Malones on December 8th. Obviously I came to my senses and I agreed to do the show, and that was that.
We did not have much time to promote the show. Like the first time we only had a few days. The show being on a Thursday night was going to be a light crowd at best. We did the Facebook thing, the twitter thing, the website thing, and told all of the peeps at work. The results showed at the Doll Hut as we easily had the biggest crowd. Friends and loved ones came. Friends from work, and even old friends who wanted to check us out surprised us with a visit.
We had a couple of organic fans return. It seems that our following has started to grow and we are seeing more and more familiar faces. We brought out more gear with us to give out drums a punch. It ws a success. Plan on hearing the drums a bit better at the next show. We even brought out a fog machine, but we in such a hurry to play we forgot to even turn it on. Stupid. Whatever...we had a good time. It is sad about the Doll Hut. It's a great venue for bands to get out there and play. We liked playing there a lot, as you can tell. Our first show was in August of this year. It's hard to believe that we are not even 6 months old. I think we have come a long way, and I am looking forward to our future shows. We hope to bring you a show that you can talk about to your friend....hopefully it will to say,"Hell yeah, you should see them!," and not, "Those guys suck." Either way we are having fun.

Linda's Doll Hut 10/26/2012

Last night we played at Linda's Doll Hut in Anaheim, California. For me this was a bucket list item. Robert has already played there a couple of times when he was in Morningside, and Side Project, but I have only been a patron. I have seen a lot of bands play in that dirty little corner they called a stage, and I have always wanted to get in there and do it too. Last night I was able to and it was great.
This show was a last minute deal, and we were happy to get the call. As almost none of you know, the Doll Hut is going to come to an end at the end of the year, and I have been told that a Cantina will be taking it's place. The building will remain, but the punk rock will stop.....forever? Who knows. The Doll Hut is an icon in Orange County, even though most of the locals have never even heard of it.
We were happy to see some familiar faces. All you that keep coming to the NO FORMULA show have been noticed, and we look forward to seeing you again at Malone's on December 8. You have been notified. There are a couple of notes I wanted to make about some of the bands last night. The first was a solo act by Carter Rollins (or maybe Justin Carter?....I'm not sure). I haven't looked at it but his website is www.carterrollins.com. I will check it out cause this guy was good. Skill, Talent, good stuff. Nice guy too. Another comment is for the band called Rolling Drunks . They played a cover of the oldies classic "Gloria...G L O R I A", that was great. It is still stuck in my head. There were 2 or 3 other bands that played but I missed them due to reasons that will remain private and I will not attest to. The only other band that played, and closed the show was Red River Massacre. (http://redrivermassacre.com). These guys have been on my radar and I was happy to be playing a show with them. They have a sound that is different from everyone else. Did you know that they have an ELECTRIC BANJO? Baddass. Solid songs, that rocked. I will see these guys again. I already know that I want to replace my bass rig to be something like the bass rig in RRM. Let's just say it rhymes with "Orange". It was a fun night. Happy and sad at the same time and an experience that I will remember. Now that you have read this, write a comment below already....Thanks.

Post Malones w/ Courage, You Bastards

We played last night @ Malones, and were happy to feel the support from the crowd. Thanks to all of you who made it out. It was a lot of fun. We were also happy to finally see Courage, You Bastards. We were not disappointed with them. They rocked. We hope to see more of them in the future. There are a couple of random people we want to thank. Thanks to the guy who caught our show, but had to leave right away. We appreciate the $20 you handed Rob to buy some beers. We accommodated your request. Come back and see us, and feel free to continue to hand us money. Thanks to Gina for letting us play. You are super nice and it's always good to see you. Thanks to Jackie at the door who let me walk in and out even though I wasn't suppose to. I won't tell anyone.....oh wait. Thanks to all of the girlfriends and wives....may you never meet. Thanks to Garth. I know it was painful for you to be there, but sometimes you just got to take your medicine. Thanks to Jay. Your support is solid, and we know you "got's our backs" Thanks to Slurp God. You are a disturbed individual who should seek professional help. Thanks to Pat and Bob. I hope the ear plugs you were wearing did not chafe your ear drums. We are having a good time playing, and it seems like all ya'll are enjoying the show. Tell a friend, and we will see you at the next one!

New Videos

Working on some new videos. We hope you like fuzzy bunnies, and cute puppies. They are not in any of our videos but we hope you like them. The weather is changing and so is our lineup. The new set is getting stronger and stronger. We are looking forward to playing out next show. We are interested in hearing from our fans. Let us know what it is you want to see from us. It will give us something to ignore. To those who have been taking pictures of the things that have been sticking the NO FORMULA stickers on....thanks. It is pretty cool. I think the helmet is pretty bold. The iPhone 5 came out. Does anyone care? It look's amazing but did anyone rush in to the store to get one? I dunno....it does not matter. Ok. Done typing.

Arizona Performa and Back

No Formula hit the road and played in Mesa, Arizona last weekend. We landed at the Goat Hill Saloon and played on a pretty cool stage to a thirsty crowd. We were well received by Marcie who booked us for the show, Storm who ran the audio, and about 100 people who had no clue who we were. The drive out there was fine. It was hot, but AC fixed that. The show was fun, and special thanks to all of you that came up to us after the show. The guy who told us that, "You changed my f*$king life," took us a bit off guard, and we where really happy to drink the pitcher of beer you bought us! I'm tired of typing so I will try to make this quick. The show at the Goat Head Saloon was great. We had a good time. The next night we saw Henry Rollins at the Crescent Ballroom. It was sold out as it should be and Mr. Rollins was amazing. It was the second time we had seen him, and he is truly inspiring. He says that his goal is to be the oldest performer holding a mic. I think he will do it. After the show we hit the Phoenix scene to see whats what. After about an hour when we had seen everything twice, (sorry Phoenix....you know it's true), we made our way back past the Crescent Ballroom only to see Henry Rollins still there taking some pictures with the security staff. The opportunity was there and it was taken. To meet Henry, and Shake his hand was a great thing. It is something that will always be remembered. He is an ICON who made his mark in the world, and I think he is just getting started. Good times. Anyway...Our next show is in Santa Ana, California at Malone's. Oct 12. See you there.

Our next show is in Mesa, Arizona at the Goat Head. It will be on September 14. This will be our first show in Arizona. The show after that is going to happen at Malone's Bar in Santa Ana, California. That will happen on October 12. We will be looking to book another show in November, and then again in December. Rob is hoping to play with his favorite guitar that is being custom painted by Fullerton artist and overall bad ass, Rob.....who's last name escapes me right now. Adam (aka Me) is looking forward to drinking coffee.

Getting Started and Red Fang

Just watched this: http://www.skatepunk.com/posts/another-great-music-video-red-fang Badass. On another note, we are just getting started. We played Chain Reaction in Anaheim to a packed house. Not really, but it was fun. We are playing Malone's next and I think it will be a better show. We are working on the show, and we plan on it being a better event. This is the way it should be...right. Red Fang's video was good...more importantly it had good music, and I guess the most important thing was that it was entertaining. Good stuff. Our Facebook page has over 40 "Likes" now. That's nice. www.facebook.com/noformulaband
